Word from the Head, Katie Hill

Happy New Year to our Chard Prep School community!  It was lovely to see so many of you on the playground yesterday morning.  We were delighted to welcome back such happy children, who were refreshed after their Christmas break and eager to share their Christmas tales with their friends on the playground.

As staff we utilised our Inset Days on Tuesday and Wednesday by updating our First Aid Training with DR First Aid.  As always this first aid training was excellent and saw us all refreshing our skills in CPR, the application of bandages and slings, the recovery position, allergic reactions and choking hazards.  Rest assured your children are in safe hands!  We also finalised the Spring Term Calendar of Events, the planning of our Spring Term Theme ‘Going Green’ and received Health & Safety Update Training.

As you will have seen from the Spring Term Calendar of Events, we have planned an exciting launch day for our new theme ‘Going Green’ which is being held on Thursday 11th January.  On this day each child will take part in a workshop in the visiting Space Odyssey Planetarium led by the presenter Simon Ould.  The children are already excited and will be beside themselves when they see the planetarium occupying the Gym on Thursday!  On Thursday evening our Chard Prep School Science Ambassadors and Science Ambassadors from other visiting schools will enjoy a Space Evening with a variety of space themed workshops run by Chard Prep Staff and visiting experts.  We would like to thank Mrs Halford for organising this exciting theme launch event for us all.

This afternoon we are looking forward to our Celebration Assembly when Wyndham Class are performing on the hand bells and the choir are also performing a piece for us.

Next week on Monday the children are looking forward to our new Spring Term Clubs starting and Fizz Pop Science are leading our Guest Assembly. On Tuesday the Prep School are competing in the Area Cross Country fixture at Holyrood.  On Wednesday the children’s swimming lessons restart for the Spring Term at Chard Leisure Centre. On Thursday we are all looking forward to our ‘Going Green’ theme wow event and in the evening we are holding a Space Evening for our Science Ambassadors and visiting Science Ambassadors from other local schools.

Mr Sills book recommendation

Godfather Death

When a poor fisherman chooses Death to be godfather to his son, he’s sure he’s made a good choice – for surely there’s no man more honest than Death? At the christening, Death gives the fisherman a gift that seems at first to be the key to the family’s fortune, but when greed overcomes the fisherman, he learns that nobody can truly cheat Death . . . 7+

Friends of Chard Prep School Events

Hopefully you’ve already heard that on the 20th January we are holding our first school fundraising event of the year – a baby and child nearly new sale. If you have any lightly used, good condition baby, toddler or children’s clothes, shoes, toys, or equipment we’d be very grateful for any donations for our school stall. If you have lots of stuff and you’d like to sell it yourself, you are also welcome to book a stall of your own for £10 (keep all the profit) or if you would like to donate some or all of the profit to the school, we are offering tables for free.

Please could all donations be dropped off at school by the morning of Wednesday 17th January. Volunteers before the day to help sort out donations or on the day to help set up, take down and man the school stall or the entrance would be welcomed with open arms, and likewise donations of cake for our cake stall would also be greatly received.

If you are able to help in any way or would like a stall please drop Ella Lane a message on 07746637818
