Word from the Head, Katie Hill

This week the children’s learning has encompassed everything from Bikeability to bath bombs, it has certainly been an exciting one!  On Monday we were pleased to welcome a number of prospective families who toured our site for our Open Day.  Thank you to the many parents who led these families around our school.  It was invaluable for our Open Day visitors to hear from existing parents whose children already attend our school.

This week our Cerdics loved their Science Session!  They were excited to explore chemical changes when they mixed powders with oil.  Mrs Halford was delighted to have a lavender scented Science Lab after the Cerdics dissolved their bath bombs!

On Tuesday we were delighted to welcome Old Cerdic, Brab Hallowes who led our Guest Assembly.  In his assembly the children explored the importance of kindness and how they could demonstrate this characteristic in school and at home.  I wonder how many random acts of kindness your child has demonstrated this week?

Wednesday saw the arrival of 12 Cerdics on bikes!  The children were excited to take part in the Bikeability Course, which ran for the following two days and taught them how to care for their bikes and road safety, as well as a host of other cycling skills.  The children thoroughly enjoyed the cycle training and were able to demonstrate the new skills they had learnt in their assessment on the final afternoon.  Congratulations Cerdics, the Bikeability instructors were very impressed with your conduct and application over the two day course.

On Thursday Mrs Orr-Ewing was pleased to run Mini Melody Makers for Pre-school aged children and their families.  The children loved the music making session!  Mrs Orr-Ewing is looking forward to seeing you all again next week.

Next week on Tuesday Rev. Vye  is coming in to lead our Guest Assembly.  On Wednesday the Prep School Cross Country runners are looking forward to competing in the Stockland Races.  On Thursday Mrs Orr-Ewing is holding our Mini Melody Makers session for Pre-school aged children and their families and our U9 Tag Rugby Team are playing a match at St. John’s School, Sidmouth.  On Friday our Student Council have organised a ‘Break The Rules Day’ for our whole school, details will follow next week, we cannot wait.

  • A reminder that all children must be in school at 8.45am for the start of the school day.  There are currently a small number of children each day arriving late which is resulting in them missing the beginning of their learning and disturbing learning for others.
  • Please ensure that your child brings a named coat to school daily.
  • Following our school ‘healthy snack’ guidelines, please send your child to school with a ‘healthy snack’ each day.  Please remember that we are a nut free school.
  • Your Prep children will need to have their football boots in school daily to support this terms PE & Games sessions.

Mr Sills Book Recommendation

The Singing Bones

Artist Shaun Tan is world renowned for his singular vision and storytelling abilities. This art book showcases his sculptural talent, applied here to fairy tales from the Brothers Grimm. Tan captures the essence of these tales as he brings traitorous brothers, lonely princesses, cunning foxes, honourable peasants and ruthless witches to life in surprising – and illuminating – ways. The Singing Bones is a feast for the eyes, a profound, powerful celebration of the world’s most beloved stories. 8+
