Word from the Head, Katie Hill

Our highlight of the week this week was a super cobb building workshop which Horner and Monmouth loved!  On Monday our Symes children had great fun in their outdoor learning.  Together they collected a wealth of natural resources from our school site, which they submerged in water.  These creations were then frozen to create beautiful frozen sculptures.  The children were fascinated to see them melt as the day progressed, even adding salt to one of the frozen sculptures and observed how this effected the melting process.

On Tuesday we were delighted to welcome the author Sue Docket and Howard Bailey from Chard Museum to lead our Guest Assembly.  The children were interested to learn about Sue’s career as a published author and we hope the assembly may have inspired some of our budding writers to consider a career as an author.

Horner and Monmouth Class had a super time in their cobb building workshop with Kate Edwards this week.  The workshop was organised to complement our termly theme of ‘Going Green’ and the classes Science focus of materials.  The children learnt a number of fascinating cobb facts, before having fun with the ‘cobb dance’ which they all took a turn at, to mix the key cobb ingredients together.  Horner & Monmouth used the cobb that they had created to make some mini bricks and cobb faces.  Thank you so much to Kate Edwards for giving up her time to inspire our children.

On Thursday Mrs Orr-Ewing was pleased to run Mini Melody Makers for Pre-school aged children and their families.  The children had so much fun being inspired by the music making that they didn’t want to leave at the end of the session!

This afternoon our Lower Cerdic children were lucky to enjoy a rugby coaching session with Mr Wootten.  Their enthusiasm was clear to see as they practised their rugby skills in the sunshine.  What a super way to end the week for our Lower Cerdics!  Thank you to Mr Wooten for sharing his rugby expertise with our children.

Next week on Monday we are looking forward to welcoming a host of new prospective families to our school for our Open Day.  On Tuesday, Old Cerdic Brab Hallowes is coming in to lead our Guest Assembly.  A group of our Cerdic children are looking forward to taking part in the Bikeability Course which is being held on Wednesday and Thursday.  Also on Thursday Mrs Orr-Ewing is holding our Mini Melody Makers for Pre-school aged children and their families.
