As a school we marked Remembrance with a week of activities across Pre-Prep and Prep. Pre-Prep learnt about Remembrance Day and the meaning behind the poppies we wear by taking part in a Remembrance Activity Day.  The children created Remembrance Lanterns by covering jars with red paper and placing a cross inside, the finished pieces look fantastic lit up with the cross highlighted as a silhouette! They also created collages with newspaper headlines and pictures from WW1, finished with a collaged 3D poppy. These made a wonderful display in the Chapel for our Remembrance Service.

Families, friends of the school and Old Cerdics enjoyed a very moving Remembrance Service on 11th November in the Chapel, with personal family war memories, poetry and music from all the Prep classes as we remembered those men and women who have fallen in the line of duty, including pupils at our school. The ‘Roll of Honour’ was read by Old Cerdic Brab Hallowes. At the end of the service, the Exhortation was read by our Headteacher Katie Hill and was followed by a minute’s silence. A very poignant service, lead beautifully by our older pupils. At 11am we came together as a school in the playground to observe the two minute silence.

‘They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.’
