Word from the Head, Katie Hill

The children have thrown themselves into their learning this week and it has been lovely to see the children so enthused.  At the beginning of the week Horner and Monmouth children had fun in their Science sessions.  Using the ‘bucket science’ approach the children were challenged to identify five different objects linking to our termly theme of ‘celebrating differences’.  In a subsequent session the children were intrigued to investigate whether the child with the largest feet also had the largest hands.  The children discovered that this wasn’t the case and that in fact only Sacha and Bibi had hands and feet of the same length!  What great science investigators you are Horner and Monmouth.

The whole school was excited to return to Chard Leisure Centre on Wednesday for their first swimming session of the school year.  This year we have managed to secure an afternoon swimming slot and the children were thrilled to be back in the pool swimming together.  We were pleased to welcome parents to our ‘Beginning of the School Year Information Meetings’ on Wednesday afternoon, when the staff delivered key messages about how your child will be taught this year and the ways in which we will help them to excel in their learning.  We appreciate that not all parents were able to attend these meetings and therefore the information that was covered will be sent home to all parents on Monday 18th September.

Upper Cerdic enjoyed their Mindfulness session this week when they explored calmness, happiness and positivity.  The children enjoyed listening to relaxing music as they began creating their happy books.

In Maths this week Horner have enjoyed illustrating numbers using concrete resources. Meanwhile Wyndham have been exploring place value and experimenting in creating different number lines.

Our Upper Cerdic the children who are preparing for 11+ Entrance Exams have been benefitting from the 11+ Morning Revision Club this week.  Thank you to Mr Sims and Mr Sills for running these sessions for the children which will continue into next week too.

On Thursday Mrs Orr-Ewing was pleased to welcome a super group of Pre-school aged children and their families to the first Mini  Melody Makers Session of the year.  It was lovely to hear the children having so much fun making music together.

This morning our Pre-prep arrived at school super excited for their first Forest School Day of the year.  What lovely sunshine they have been able to enjoy at ROAM today, we cannot wait to hear about all of the fun they have had when they return.

Next week on Tuesday the Lord’s Larder are coming to lead our Guest Assembly. On Wednesday Mrs Battersby is eagerly awaiting the launch of the ‘Tiddly Peeps’ toddler group, when Pre-school aged children and their families are invited to come and join us for a stay and play session at 10.15 – 11.15am and the children are looking forward to their swimming lesson at Chard Leisure Centre.  On Thursday Mrs Orr-Ewing is holding Mini Melody Makers for Pre-school aged children and their parents.
