As a school, we have worked through this difficult period to maintain a calm and consistent approach to the coronavirus crisis, with the welfare of our children at the heart of every decision. Unfortunately, maintaining this approach is no longer viable and, in line with the Prime Minister’s announcement on Wednesday night, the school will be closing from 5.30pm on Friday 20th March. At this stage we do not know how long the closure will be for; we will be guided by the government and sincerely hope that we will be given the green light to reopen as soon as possible with potentially reviewed term dates. In the meantime, we will move to the remote learning plan that we have put into place. Full details of this plan was sent to you on Friday, including your child’s unique username and password. In order to keep parents fully informed during this period of closure, I will of course be sending regular updates via email.

I would like to thank you for the kind words of support you have shown towards the school during this unprecedented crisis. We are doing all that we can to minimise the disruption for the children and will ensure that our pupils are as fully supported as possible going forward. The positive spirit shown by pupils, parents and staff at the difficult time has been admirable.

We look forward to opening Chard School’s gates as soon as we are safe to do so.

Best Wishes,

Katie Hill
