Visit from Butterfly Conversation

Kate Merry, from Butterfly Conservation, visited the school to run workshops for Years 1 through to 6.

The children learnt all about the life cycles of butterflies and moths – and how to tell the difference between them!

They then planted some nectar-rich flowering plants and some caterpillar food plants in one of the sunny flower-beds at school to encourage butterflies into the gardens.

The children also had a chance to gaze at the stunningly hairy ‘woolly bear’ caterpillars of the Garden Tiger Moth that Kate had brought in.

Later in the term Kate will return with a Moth Trap and other living specimens for the children to examine and learn about.

Meanwhile, Mr Lucas is starting a Bug Club to breed some of these beautiful and fascinating species, starting this Wednesday after school.
