Summer Fair and OCA Dinner

Summer Fair and OCA Dinner

On Saturday 18th June, the sun shone as the Friends of Chard School held a very successful and enjoyable Summer Fair on Monmouth Lawn which raised over £1900 in total – a fabulous result. The Fair was rounded off with an impressive karate display by pupils of all ages led by Mr Neil Hazell.

In the evening the Old Cerdics Association – former pupils of Chard School – met for its annual dinner at Chard Rugby Club. Founded over 85 years ago the association by tradition has held a dinner in Chard every year, apart from the war years, since its inauguration in 1929. Such is the interest and support that members travel long distances from as far afield as Cambridge and Lincolnshire to be in Chard for this occasion and many visit their old school beforehand to meet up with old friends at our Summer Fair. There is also a strong local following.

MP Marcus Fysh was the special guest, attending an OCA event for the first time at this prestigious annual event, the fifth successive Yeovil constituency MP to have attended an OCA dinner. The toast to the school was proposed by OCA vice president Nigel Griffiths, a pupil at the school in the 1950s to which headmistress Sarah Graham responded. A wonderful round off to a very enjoyable day for pupils past and present and their families.
