‘Somerset Sight’ visit

‘Somerset Sight’ visit

Last Thursday our pupils were visited by local charity ‘Somerset Sight’ who reach out to sight impaired people in both the towns and villages of Somerset with a range of services and activities.

Through a variety of activities, the children were shown the difficulties that the blind and partially sighted encounter and how they can be helped to overcome these to manage their daily lives.

There were four different work stations that the children circulated around: colouring a picture whilst wearing spectacles that simulated restricted sight; trying out equipment that assists with partially sighted or blind; deciphering Braille and encoding messages; and completing worksheets on the structure of the eye.

Many thanks to Somerset Sight for their very informative workshop. We were very pleased to be able to donate the proceeds of Thursday’s Cakes@break to the charity to help them continue their wonderful work.
