Pupils go on a ‘Farm to Fork’ visit to Tescos

Pupils go on a ‘Farm to Fork’ visit to Tescos

Today Year 4, 5 & 6 went on a ‘Farm to Fork’ visit to Tescos, Chard. They put on bakery hats and ‘Farm to Fork’ vests before embarking on a tour of the store led by Tescos staff. Their first port of call in the warehouse was the walk-in fridge, followed by the walk-in freezer, which were very cold! The pupils progressed to the bakery where they had a talk from the bakers about the bread making process and then had a go at making dough. After this, they went to the fish counter and then did a quiz around the store to identify the country of origin of fresh produce and to find produce matching each colour of the rainbow.

The Farm to Fork visits are intended by Tescos to ignite a passion for where food comes from in the nation’s children. Tescos has opened the doors of more than 700 of their larger stores for primary school children to come and touch, feel and taste food and learn about the journey their food takes from farm to fork.

Thank you to the staff at Tescos, Chard for giving the pupils such an interesting and fun visit!
