Monday 29th April – Friday 3rd May

 A Note from the Friends:

Following our meeting on Wednesday, the Committee have agreed to spend some of our current funds on five new programmable “roamers” and music composing software for the IT Suite, a brilliant three sided easel for Symes, a £200 contribution to the development of the bog garden along with a “Mag Post” (a scientific magnifying lens on top of a post which the children can use to observe nature in the large), 3 new picnic tables for the playground and a replacement BBQ for future events.

The Second Hand Shop is open on the first Monday of every month.  If parents need items of clothing urgently, please contact Lindsay Rossiter who will help.  We need to ensure that items purchased are properly receipted and we are trying to minimise the involvement of the office as much as possible.

The sign-up sheet for the Film Afternoon (Sat 11 May) will be on the board on Monday.  Please register your child’s name as soon as possible.

Preparations are under way for the Duck Race on Thurs 23 May.  A note will be going out nearer the event providing general information, directions and a quiz.  We are looking to recruit 2 car park attendants to assist on the day – free tea and cake for the successful candidates!

The Summer Fair will be our big event this term.  Raffle tickets will be sent out before half term and we will be making the usual requests for generous raffle donations.  In addition, Mrs Slade will be running her ever popular tombola but only raffling bottles (glass or plastic) so please look in your cupboards and start collecting.  We need plants for the plant stall.  Mrs Snell and Mrs Bilboe will be running the craft stall and need as many homemade donations as possible.  We will have plenty of other fun stalls for everyone including a few surprises.  In addition, we will have a “busking corner” in our cafe and we are hoping that as many children and parents as possible, will strike up a tune to raise a few extra pennies from a willing audience.

Thank you to the Friends from all of us at School!

Red Tractor:  Millennium Catering have now confirmed to us that all of the meat products used in our School Dinners is Red Tractor standard.  For more information on this – http://www.redtractor.org.uk/home

Student Council:  The elections for the Student Council are currently taking place and the first meeting will be on Wednesday 8th May @3.30pm in the Science Lab (not on the 1st May)

School Calendar:  There have been one or two changes and additions to the Calendar.  The new Calendar will be put onto the website next week with the changes marked in bold.

SAMBA:  The SAMBA workshop last Monday was a big success.  A big thank you to Mr and Mrs Coleman – I know that the children had an excellent time!

Music in Assembly:  Mr Hammond and Mr Evans came into Assembly on Wednesday and talked about their instruments to an enraptured and enthusiastic audience.  Mr Evans played his cello and double bass and Mr Hammond his trumpet and trombone.  There are opportunities for children to learn these instruments and plenty of leasing schemes available so the instruments do not have to be purchased.  If you would like to find out more, please do not hesitate to come and have a chat with Mrs Coleman or me.

Peripatetic singing and recorder lessons:  Mr Pearson is available to teach both of these.  He also teaches the piano in School as well.
