Year 6 Leavers

It was a very emotional final assembly on Friday as we said goodbye and good luck to our Year 6 pupils. We were very proud of how they spoke about their happy years at Chard and their presentations in front of the school community demonstrated what thoughtful, confident young people they have become. We wish you all the very best for your journeys onwards, do keep in touch with us with your progress! To everyone else, have a fantastic summer break! Uniti Vireamus.

Families and friends of Chard School enjoyed a wonderful Concert and Prize-giving Ceremony on Thursday, where pupils performed a range of songs, orchestral and group instrument pieces which showcased the talent and the love of music that all of our pupils are inspired to have here at Chard. After the concert items, prizes were awarded across a range of disciplines, recognising commitment and achievement in all aspects of school life. The afternoon was rounded up beautifully with cream teas in the sunshine on Monmouth Lawn! Well done everyone!

The Wizard of Oz

The Juniors transported us to Oz in their magical production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’ this week, thrilling audiences of friends and families over two afternoons. Once again we were dazzled by the talents of our children as they sang, danced and acted with aplomb. Congratulations to all the children and to Mrs Squires and Mr Pearson for giving us a show to remember!

PRE-PREP TRIP TO SEATON JURASSIC

IMG_0292

The Pre-Prep had a fantastic time travelling back through time at Seaton Jurassic on Tuesday. They started in Victorian times, in the home of an explorer and fossil-hunter, and travelled back through the Jurassic seas, steering the time machine through the pre-historic underwater sea life. They ended up in a giant rock pool, where they became rock pool dwellers and tried to camouflage themselves as protection against the giant sea gull which was waiting to pounce overhead. After lunch and a play at the park, the children returned to the garden classroom, where they learned more about natural camouflage, hunted for mini-beasts and made their own clay models using natural materials from the garden. All that time travelling was quite exhausting – but great fun!

Upper Cerdics explore Devon

On Monday, the Upper Cerdics enjoyed a day trip to East Devon. Armed with a camera each, they went to a variety of mathematical and geological sites, making a photo journal as they went. Firstly, they observed the change in a river in Honiton as it cut across a meander to form a waterfall, studying its geological properties; they then visited the National Trust house ‘A La Ronde’, a quirky 18th-century house with fascinating interior decoration and collections; next stop was Budleigh Salterton where they examined the sandstone cliffs and pebble beds that helped give the beach its beautiful array of pebbles, before finally reaching Branscombe for an impromptu swim! A great time was had by all!
