345 Celebrations

345 Celebrations

On Tuesday, the sun shone as we enjoyed a day of activities to celebrate the 345th anniversary of Chard School. We were transported back in time as the children arrived in medieval costume and were divided into groups to enjoy learning and activities from centuries past. After a delicious ‘medieval’ stew lunch the children visited Chard Museum to find out more about the era in which the school was founded. There the children were met by the Mayor and the Mace-bearer and they made a wonderful sight as they paraded through the town centre behind a pony and trap, back to the school grounds. Gathered in the playground, we re-enacted the handing over of the building deeds for the purpose of being a school, just as it happened many years ago. The parents then enjoyed a display of singing and dancing by the children before we rounded the day off with a hog roast on Monmouth Lawn in glorious sunshine. A wonderful day for Chard School, which we will all remember for many years to come!
